Lemons Returns for 2014

The Tampa Bay Rebels have announced that point guard Cory Lemons will be rejoining the team for the 2014 Florida Basketball Association season. Lemons had a breakout season in 2013, averaging 23.8 points, 9 assists, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.8 steals per game. “I’m excited to come back to the Rebels this season to play with a great group of guys,” Lemons commented. “I had a good time last year, but left disappointed because we didn’t win the championship. I’m coming back more focused and to make everybody better, myself included.”

The former NCAA Division III All-American made an immediate impact upon joining the team in early June, becoming the first player in FBA history to win 3 straight Player of the Week awards, en route to being named league Player of the Week 4 times in 5 weeks. He was also named the FBA 2nd team following his rookie campaign in Tampa. “I think [the FBA] was very good competition. Me and my team had to come ready every game night because there was no time to slack or take anybody lightly. Every team was well-balanced,” Lemons responded when asked how he felt about the level of competition throughout the FBA.

The Rebels will take the court for the first time in 2014 when they travel to Lake Wales and face the Heartland Prowl in a rematch of the 2013 championship game on May 10th. They will then host the expansion team from Miami on May 17th at 6pm in their home opener at Freedom High School in New Tampa. For the latest information about the Tampa Bay Rebels, please visit

The Rebels will open their 3rd Florida Basketball Association season on May 10th as they travel to Lake Wales to face the Heartland Prowl in a rematch of the 2013 FBA championship game. On Saturday, May 17th, the Rebels will host their home opener against the expansion franchise that was awarded to Miami in the offseason. Tampa Bay will then travel south for a back to back at Palm Beach and Miami on May 24th and 25th.

The Rebels will then play four consecutive home games as they play the middle portion of their schedule. They will host the Florida Flight in the first matchup between the two teams on May 31st before hosting Palm Beach at the Police Athletic League the following weekend. The Prowl will travel to Tampa for the only time in the regular season on June 14th, while Miami will make its last trip to Tampa on June 21st.

Following the four-game home stand, Tampa Bay will hit the road for their next 3 games. They will travel to Orlando to play the Flight on June 28th, which will be the last weekend of games before the league-wide break over the July 4th weekend. Play will start again on July 12th when the Rebels play their second road contest of the season against the Prowl. Following their final to trip to play the Florida Flight in Orlando on July 19th, the Tampa Bay will host the Palm Beach Knights to finish out the regular season on July 26th.

Check Out Our Top 10 Plays Video

The Tampa Bay Rebels released their first TOP 10 PLAYS video clip this week. The video includes plays from the 2012 and 2013 seasons. “We put this footage together based on our fans request. After last season, we received several comments saying we should have a top ten video of the best plays from the 2012 Championship team and the team that went to the final in 2013. To my knowledge, this is the first time a semi-pro basketball team in Florida has done something like this. We want to thank our fans for the valuable input and look forward to keep offering the best basketball entertainment in the city,” said GM Fernando Rojas.

Andrew Phillips, Director of Scouting for the Rebels, said, “We are in the process of revamping the roster, and the tryout gave us the opportunity to look at new talent. The frontcourt will be featuring new talent at both the power forward and center positions, and there will be new additions in the backcourt as well. We will be bringing back six players from last year’s team for the 2014 Florida Basketball Association season: Cory Lemons, Aubrey West, Robert Fuchs, Jamison Clark, Jonathan Brown and Xavier Shannon.”
