The Tampa Bay Rebels have announced that point guard Cory Lemons will be rejoining the team for the 2014 Florida Basketball Association season. Lemons had a breakout season in 2013, averaging 23.8 points, 9 assists, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.8 steals per game. “I’m excited to come back to the Rebels this season to play with a great group of guys,” Lemons commented. “I had a good time last year, but left disappointed because we didn’t win the championship. I’m coming back more focused and to make everybody better, myself included.”
The former NCAA Division III All-American made an immediate impact upon joining the team in early June, becoming the first player in FBA history to win 3 straight Player of the Week awards, en route to being named league Player of the Week 4 times in 5 weeks. He was also named the FBA 2nd team following his rookie campaign in Tampa. “I think [the FBA] was very good competition. Me and my team had to come ready every game night because there was no time to slack or take anybody lightly. Every team was well-balanced,” Lemons responded when asked how he felt about the level of competition throughout the FBA.
The Rebels will take the court for the first time in 2014 when they travel to Lake Wales and face the Heartland Prowl in a rematch of the 2013 championship game on May 10th. They will then host the expansion team from Miami on May 17th at 6pm in their home opener at Freedom High School in New Tampa.
