Rebels Improve to 5-1

The Tampa Bay Rebels improved to 5-1 on the season with a 159-78 victory over the Palm Beach Knights on Sunday, June 8th at the Tampa Police Athletic League. The Rebels seized control early, opening the game with a 30-5 run, and never looked backed as they won their fourth straight game.

Eight Rebels scored in double-figures, led by Robert Fuchs who shot 7-15 from downtown on his way to 28 points and 5 rebounds. Bryce Kachinski added 20 points, while Joe Katuka collected a huge double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. James Devlin came off the bench to score 19 while adding 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Brandon Davis finished with 18 points, and Jermaine Bell scored 14 points to go along with 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists. Spenser Mitchell chipped in 12 points, while Matt Kendrick added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Cory Lemons led the team with 10 assists while adding 9 rebounds and 4 points on the night. Jerome Clyburn had a team-high 4 steals to go along with 9 points and 6 rebounds, and Jonathan Brown finished with 7 points and 3 assists off the bench.

At halftime, participants of the Rebels’ youth camp, held at the PAL gymnasium the previous day, participated in a full-court game, much to the delight of the fans in attendance. Two campers, Jasmine Licia and William Warren, also competed in a free-throw contest for a $50 gift card to La Pequeña Colombia after finishing as the top 2 free-throw shooters in the camp.

The Rebels return to action on June 14th when they face the defending FBA champion Heartland Prowl at 6pm at Freedom High School in New Tampa. The Rebels won the first meeting of the season between these two teams by a score of 122-115 back on May 10th in Lake Wales.

Fans who are 13 years old and younger receive free admission to the game, while those over 13 can purchase tickets for just $10 at the door. Parking for game will be provided in the lot behind Freedom High School. To reach the parking lot, turn next to the New Tampa Community Park and Recreation Center. Once you reach the fork in the road, turn right and follow the road until you reach the parking lot.
