As part of their community outreach program, members of the Tampa Bay Rebels organization volunteered at Metropolitan Ministries near downtown Tampa on June 18th. Metropolitan Ministries provides resources to individuals and families in need in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, and Polk counties. They provide food and lodging along with programs for both children and adults to assist them as they overcome their challenges.
Players and coaches attended an orientation and were welcomed by Don Anderson, who addressed the group and shared some personal experiences from his time as a volunteer. Following the orientation, the Rebels assisted Metropolitan Ministries’ staff by preparing food, serving residents, and cleaning up after the meal service.
“Coach Bell told me about the opportunity to volunteer for Metropolitan Ministries in Tampa. I thought that was a great opportunity for the Rebels not only to continue giving back to the community, but also to learn about the humanitarian job Metropolitan Ministries does in the city. The players prepared food, and coaches served the meals to the residents. The folks that we had the opportunity to meet are regular good people in difficult situations. We look forward to supporting Metropolitan Ministries’ programs in the future,” stated Fernando Rojas, Head Coach of the Rebels.
Metropolitan Ministries’ Tampa location is currently at full capacity for their residential units and there is a lengthy waiting list of those in need. If you are interested in volunteering or donating to Metropolitan Ministries, please visit their website at www.metromin.org.
