Tampa Bay Holds Off Prowl

The Tampa Bay Rebels continued their current hot streak, defeating the Heartland Prowl 137-103 on Saturday, June 14th at Freedom High School in Tampa. Cory Lemons finished with his first triple-double of the season, scoring 17 points in the first quarter while triggering a 42-14 run that put the Rebels in control for the rest of the night. Although the Prowl trimmed the lead to 21 by halftime, the Rebels fought off any hopes of a 3rd quarter rally to win their 6th straight game. With the victory, the Rebels improve to 6-1, while the Prowl drop to 2-3 in 2014.

Lemons totaled 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists on the night, setting the tempo from the tip-off. Brandon Davis knocked down 8 3-pointers on his way to 27 points. Rebels’ center Joe Katuka continued to assert himself as a presence down low, finishing with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block.

The Rebels return to action at 6pm on Saturday, June 21st when they host the Miami Midnites at Freedom High School. The season series will be on the line that night, as well as potential playoff implications, as the teams have split their first two meetings.
