The Tampa Bay Rebels concluded the 2014 regular season with a 130-110 victory over the Palm Beach Knights on July 26th at Freedom High School in New Tampa. With the win, the Rebels improved to 10-2 on the season and reached at least 10 victories in the regular season, for the third straight season.
The Rebels started fast, jumping out to a 25-15 lead after the first quarter. Palm Beach rallied in the second quarter, cutting Tampa Bay’s lead to 51-48 at intermission, and carried the momentum over to the second half where they took the lead 52-51 in the early moments of the third quarter. The Rebels, however, battled back and held an 85-75 advantage heading into the final quarter. Cory Lemons scored 12 points in the decisive fourth quarter run that pushed the Rebels to victory.
Joe Katuka, Jermaine Bell, and Cory Lemons led the Rebels in scoring with 24 points each. Katuka also grabbed 19 rebounds, to go along with 3 steals and a block on the night. Bell hauled in 13 rebounds and added 5 blocks to go along with 5 assists in the victory, and Lemons finished the evening with 12 assists, 12 rebounds and 3 steals in addition to his scoring efforts.
The Rebels will now face the Heartland Prowl on Saturday, August 2nd at 1pm in the semi-final round of the FBA playoffs. The game will be played at the Police Athletic League located at 1924 W. Diana Street in Tampa. All fans will receive free admission to the game.

The Tampa Bay Rebels will be celebrating Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday, July 26th when they play the Palm Beach Knights at 6pm at Freedom High School in New Tampa. As part of the event, all fans will receive free admission to the game. Both Burger 21 and SportClips will provide giveaways for fans while supplies last. The evening will also feature halftime contests that will give fans the opportunity to win additional prizes.
The Rebels are coming off a 130-111 win against the Florida Flight on July 19th where Rebels’ guard Brandon Davis scored a league record 49 points. After a rough start to the season, the Palm Beach Knights have won 3 consecutive games and can secure a playoff spot with a victory in Tampa.

The Tampa Bay Rebels improved to 9-2 on the season as Brandon Davis set an FBA record with 49 points in the Rebels’ 130-111 win this past weekend against the Florida Flight in Orlando. Davis knocked down 12 three-pointers and made 9 of 11 free-throws on the record-setting night. He also pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists on the evening.
The Rebels came out of the gate on fire, taking a 40-21 lead after the first quarter behind 5 three-pointers from Davis. Although the Flight would cut the lead to single-digits in the second, Tampa Bay would take a 63-53 lead into the half. The Rebels pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Flight 26-16 to hold an 89-69 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Five other Tampa Bay players, outside of Davis, scored in double-figures on the evening. Joe Katuka had another double-double for the Rebels, scoring 14 points with a variety of offensive moves and grabbing 13 rebounds on the night. Spenser Mitchell finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds, including a spectacular put-back slam, and continues to assert himself as a vital part of the Rebels team.
Although Davis set a record for 3-point makes while in high school, this is the first time in his career that he has set a record for points scored. It also set a new personal best in total 3-point makes, breaking his personal best of 11 makes in a single game. When asked if the playing with the Rebels has helped him improve his game, Davis replied, “Yes, it has given me more confidence. They let me play my game, and I am not just a 3-point shooter. My teammates encourage me when I touch the ball and no one complains about touches during the game.” Regarding the competition level in the FBA, Davis stated, “There is very strong competition that prepares me to go back to play in other pro leagues. It puts you to the test.”
The Rebels will return to Freedom High School in New Tampa on Saturday, July 26th when they face one of the hottest teams in the FBA, the Palm Beach Knights, on Fan Appreciation night. The Knights have overcome a rocky start to the season and have won their last 3 games in convincing fashion. As part of Fan Appreciation night, all fans will receive free admission to the game. Burger21 and SportClips will provide free giveaways to fans who attend while supplies last. The game is set to begin at 6pm.

The Tampa Bay Rebels withstood a fourth quarter surge from the Heartland Prowl and came away with a 110-107 victory on Saturday, July 12th in Lake Wales.
Trailing late in the final period, the Rebels rallied behind strong defensive play to put the game within striking distance coming down the stretch. Brandon Davis hit the last of his 9 3-pointer on the evening with just under 1 minute left to put the Rebels ahead 106-105. After Prowl forward Mark St. Fort scored a basket with 42.6 seconds left, which pushed the home team back ahead at 107-106, Tampa Bay guard Jerome Clyburn hit a layup with 29.6 seconds to give the Rebels the lead for good at 108-107. Cory Lemons then knocked down 2 free-throws to extend the lead to 110-107 with under 10 seconds left to play.
Davis finished with 36 points, shooting 9 of 15 from long range, to go along with 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. Point guard Cory Lemons scored 21 points, handed out 14 assists, and grabbed 8 rebounds for Tampa Bay.
The Rebels, who improved to 8-2 with the victory, will travel to Orlando on July 19th to face the Florida Flight before returning home on July 26th to close out the regular season against the Palm Beach Knights.
