Davis Sets FBA Scoring Mark in Win

The Tampa Bay Rebels improved to 9-2 on the season as Brandon Davis set an FBA record with 49 points in the Rebels’ 130-111 win this past weekend against the Florida Flight in Orlando. Davis knocked down 12 three-pointers and made 9 of 11 free-throws on the record-setting night. He also pulled down 8 rebounds and dished out 3 assists on the evening.

The Rebels came out of the gate on fire, taking a 40-21 lead after the first quarter behind 5 three-pointers from Davis. Although the Flight would cut the lead to single-digits in the second, Tampa Bay would take a 63-53 lead into the half. The Rebels pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Flight 26-16 to hold an 89-69 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Five other Tampa Bay players, outside of Davis, scored in double-figures on the evening. Joe Katuka had another double-double for the Rebels, scoring 14 points with a variety of offensive moves and grabbing 13 rebounds on the night. Spenser Mitchell finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds, including a spectacular put-back slam, and continues to assert himself as a vital part of the Rebels team.

Although Davis set a record for 3-point makes while in high school, this is the first time in his career that he has set a record for points scored. It also set a new personal best in total 3-point makes, breaking his personal best of 11 makes in a single game. When asked if the playing with the Rebels has helped him improve his game, Davis replied, “Yes, it has given me more confidence. They let me play my game, and I am not just a 3-point shooter. My teammates encourage me when I touch the ball and no one complains about touches during the game.” Regarding the competition level in the FBA, Davis stated, “There is very strong competition that prepares me to go back to play in other pro leagues. It puts you to the test.”

The Rebels will return to Freedom High School in New Tampa on Saturday, July 26th when they face one of the hottest teams in the FBA, the Palm Beach Knights, on Fan Appreciation night. The Knights have overcome a rocky start to the season and have won their last 3 games in convincing fashion. As part of Fan Appreciation night, all fans will receive free admission to the game. Burger21 and SportClips will provide free giveaways to fans who attend while supplies last. The game is set to begin at 6pm.
