2014 Season Recap

Following the conclusion of the 2014 FBA season, we sat down with Tampa Bay Rebels Head Coach / GM Fernando Rojas to discuss this past season and get a glimpse into what the future holds for the organization:

What would you say was the highest point this season?

Without a doubt, the highest point in the season was getting full time jobs for some of our players. These players will continue working and getting weekly paychecks even after the season is over. We strive to be a different type of team, helping players getting full time jobs makes the Tampa Bay Rebels a one of a kind organization.

What type of involvement you had with the community?

Through Metropolitan Ministries, we helped serve food to their residents at their Tampa location. In association with the Tampa Police Athletic League, we provided a basketball camp for boys and girls. Additionally, we became members of the New Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

What was your record and how did the team play throughout the season?

We ended the 2014 season with an 11 – 3 record, making this the third straight year that the Rebels have reached the FBA Championship game. Rebels guard Brandon Davis set a new league scoring record with 49 points in a single game. We won every away game during the regular season and had five Rebels players nominated for the FBA All-Star Game.

What was the lowest point in the season?

We saw some players quitting throughout the season. When players don’t understand their role within the team, they quit or turn to selfish attitudes. Being part of something bigger than yourself is a difficult concept to grasp for many young players.

What are the plans for 2015?

My top priority will be to increase fan attendance to the games. We have a specific plan to bring families to enjoy the games and new halftime contests. We will be revamping our basketball operations and will also be bringing new personnel to the coaching staff.
