The Tampa Bay Rebels have announced the creation of their new farm team that will start play in April 2015. The team, which will be called the Blue Sharks, will play in Tampa and also in tournaments throughout the state during the spring and summer.
Creating a team where new players can develop their craft will allow both players and coaches the opportunity to learn and move up the ladder. The team will act as a developmental program for those athletes on the edge of playing FIBA basketball. The players that successfully develop will be called up to join the Tampa Bay Rebels for international opportunities and official games.
Rebels GM Fernando Rojas said of the new project, “The number of players asking for tryouts has steadily been on the rise. We decided to create a feeder team that will allow more players the opportunity to develop and prepare for international basketball. The standards to make the Blue Sharks will be the same as the ones we have established for the Rebels: maturity, commitment and skill.”
